Community Rules
Version 1 · Updated October 6, 2026
These rules are part of the Terms of Service. They are written for kids and parents to read together. The parent who owns the account is responsible for keeping them, and for everything a kid in the household posts or does on YaaFlip.
The rules
- Be kind. Everything you record, write or name on YaaFlip is seen by other kids. Keep it friendly and G-rated: nothing scary, mean, rude or grown-up.
- Keep your real-world self private. First names are fine. Your last name, your school, your street, your house number, your phone number and anything on a uniform are not. Don't say them, show them or write them — not in a video, a title or a username.
- Film your own toys. A listing is a toy or a piece of kids' gear that belongs to you and that you've outgrown, shown in one short video. Not someone else's things, not a picture of something, not a toy you don't have.
- Be honest about it. Show the toy as it really is. If a piece is missing or something is broken, show it.
- Keep your word. If your toy sells, your family drops it off within 3 days, in its labeled bag, at a drop-off spot the listing offered. If you buy a toy, your family picks it up within 14 days. If something comes up, a grown-up cancels the sale early rather than letting the time run out.
- Drop-off spots are for pickups. Be quick and polite at the counter, say your two words, take your bag and go. Never ask the people who work there about another family, and never ask them to bend a rule.
- Friends are real friends. A friend code is for a kid you know in real life, handed over in person. Never post a friend code or an invite code on the internet, and never add someone you only know online.
- Invite real neighbors. Invites are for families you know in the real world who live near your drop-off spots.
- Report, don't fight. If a listing looks wrong, tap the fish. If a trade goes wrong, a grown-up writes a note from the trade. There is no chat on YaaFlip, and nobody contacts another family outside YaaFlip because of something they saw here.
- Don't trick the app. One account per adult, no shared accounts, no pretending to be somewhere you aren't, no fake drop-offs, pickups or disputes, and no trying to get around the screening, the limits or the kid zone.
What can't be listed
Anything that isn't a kid's own toy or kids' gear, or isn't safe to trade: items under a safety recall; anything with a weapon, a blade or a projectile meant to hurt; anything for grown-ups; food, medicine or anything you put in your mouth; live animals; anything that locates a child (a backpack with a name tag, a uniform); anything counterfeit; anything that isn't allowed to be sold. A listing of something like this is taken down and counts as a strike.
What happens when a rule is broken
- A listing that breaks a rule is taken down by our screening or by a person, before or after it goes live. The family is told why, and a kid can often fix it and send it again.
- A listing someone reports is hidden immediately, before anyone looks, and a person reviews every report. Reports are anonymous to the seller. If the report turns out to be nothing, the listing comes back.
- Strikes. Each listing a person at YaaFlip takes down is a strike against the household, whichever kid listed it. Losing a dispute as a seller ("It's not here") is a strike. A take-down in the middle of a trade is two strikes, one for each.
- Warnings, then a pause, then a person decides. The first take-down comes with a warning that YaaFlip is for kids and that more take-downs can close the account; the second warns that one more pauses it; the third standing strike pauses the household — no buying, no new listings, no re-listing, no avatar shop, listings off every feed — while a person at YaaFlip reviews the family's record. Trades already under way carry on. That person may cancel a strike, lift the pause, or close the account for good. Closing is always a person's decision, never automatic.
- Flaky sellers are warned, then have new listings paused until their pending drop-offs are complete, and may be reviewed for closure if it continues.
- A closed account loses its listings, invites, friend codes and friendships; pending purchases are refunded; its Yaa! Points stay in the account and cannot be used.
Asking us to look again
A grown-up can ask us to look at any decision by writing a note from the trade in Safety & support, or at hello@yaaflip.com. Some disputes about a strike may be put to a neighborhood panel: three verified parents who use the same drop-off spot, none of them involved in the trade or friends with anyone who is, who read the trade's record (by role and time, never by name) and the drop-off photo and vote. Two of three decide; a tie goes to a person at YaaFlip. Panels never decide anything about safety.
For grown-ups
- Keep the parent PIN to yourself, and use "ask me first" if you want to approve every purchase.
- Watch what your kids film. You approve every listing before it is screened, and you can take any listing down at any time.
- Teach the privacy rule above. It is the one rule that keeps your child's video from locating your child, and our screening is a backstop for it, not a replacement.
- Keep invites and friend codes for people you actually know, locally. Handing a code to a stranger online is the one thing that can let the wrong adult in, and it is a violation of the Terms.
